Experience the Best of Leslieville at The Green Wood

Experience the Best of Leslieville at The Green Wood

The Green Wood is a newly opened restaurant + bar on Queen East, down near the streetcar repository. It has a clean, modern aesthetic with lots of windows and succulents: two things guaranteed to impress us.

The Green Wood brunch

We arrived soon after the Green Wood's brunch hours started, at 9am on a Sunday (after a failed trip to Lady Marmalade, oops) and hung out for a while drinking coffee and chatting. It started to fill up a little more as we were leaving around 10:30, but there was still space available by the bar.

The Green Wood brunch

You heard it first here: this place is going to get popular. The servers were friendly and, as you'll see below, everything we had was delicious! (The endless coffee refills, not pictured, were also much appreciated after a late night.)

Tatiana's pick: Souk Fries

Tatiana's pick: Souk Fries

I am an absolute FIEND for halloumi, the thick chunks of cheese that you can see on top of the fries. It's salty and crispy and delicious, so when I saw it listed in the ingredients for this meal, it was a natural pick. I also love eggplant, and I love fries... so basically I was on board with everything about this dish.

Thankfully, once it arrived, it didn't disappoint. The sharp flavour of the sumac sprinkled on top was just enough to provide tangy goodness to the dish, and although I'm not always the biggest fan of tahini, it provided a smooth compliment. I also wasn't too full after eating this: it was the perfect portion size.

Overall: 10 out of 10, would eat again

Jian's pick: Breakfast Potato

Jian's pick: Breakfast Potato

The baked potato, main feature of this meal, was smothered in sour cream and filled with bacon. Although the flavours weren't as original as Tatiana's meal, it was still filling and delicious. (And really, what more can you ask for?)

The salad was good as well, with a sweet, tangy dressing. (One time we went to a restaurant and their side salad was literally JUST arugula, so ever since then I've been paying more attention to this.) The Green Wood's brunch definitely has more original options than this one, but it's still a worthy choice.

Overall: simple but tasty
