Get Good Food at The Good Fork

the good fork (yes, all lowercase) is nestled into the corner of Bloor and Jane St, much further west than we'd ever had the occasion to go before. (Brunch is underrated as a means of exploration!) Once there, we found that the unassuming exterior masked a cozy, warm room inside.

Although we didn't have a chance to go check out the upstairs, it was nice to note that there would be room for more groups. In the morning light, the bottom room we occupied was still and peaceful, even as eager brunchers began to line up against the back wall.

We enjoyed the coffee throughout our brunch at the good fork - it was smooth and strong. The room was welcoming, and gave off the impression of being a classy family kitchen, in which we could sit and continue sipping our coffee as the day stretched on. The plain white dishes and vase of live flowers also added a nice touch of simplicity.

Tatiana's pick: Good Forkin' Morning with Halloumi

Halloumi is easily one of my favourite foods (as I've mentioned before) so when I saw it was an option at the good fork, I had to try it. Although I was unpleasantly surprised by the addition of the parsley on top of it (it had been listed only as "Halloumi, fennel jam & sesame seeds" on the menu), once I picked it off, it was as delicious as I expected.

Although the halloumi was easily the main show, the sides accompanying it were equally delicious. the good fork was home to a second first for me: I had never ordered eggs to any particular specification before, and asking for them "over easy with a crispy bottom", although very specific, served me well.

Overall: would have been perfect sans parsley

Bronwynne's pick: Pears Brosnan Pancakes

These pancakes were giant! I couldn't finish them, even with Tatiana's help. I wasn't expecting to have so much granola on top–I had been expecting only a sprinkle–but it was (unlike Tatiana's parsley) a welcome surprise.

The main flavour in this dish wasn't the pears for which it was so punnily named, but instead the ricotta that lined them. It was creamy and not too sweet, for which I was grateful (but fans of super-sweet pancakes can just as easily add more maple syrup!).

Overall: bring your appetite!
