Enjoy Culture and Brunch at The Drake Hotel
The Drake Hotel has long been recognized as a hotbed of culture in West Toronto. Hipsters from all over the city can find a variety of events to interest them, from concerts to destressing workshops to... its famous brunch!
One big perk: the Drake Hotel's brunch takes reservations, meaning that in addition to having lots of room to sit down, you never have to worry if you're with a large group. (Although this can sometimes make things difficult if you don't make a reservation!) They also have a lovely outside patio for summer visitors.
The Drake Hotel's interior decor is both classic and eclectic, with vintage video games playing on screens throughout the rooms and high wooden tables. Additionally, since it's so large, there's always a lot of people-watching to be done (Tatiana's favourite part of brunch). The music they played was, although loud, much to our taste (if you like indie rock).
Although the Drake Hotel's location is stellar, it's hard not to feel that their food is a little overpriced. Much as I love avocado toast, spending 18 dollars on it is not my cup of tea (or plate of toast in this case?).
Although the eggs were well poached and the avocado was superb, I also question the addition of radishes. Surely there are other vegetables that are better suited to avocado toast? Plus, the bread itself, although it had a nice, soft sourdough flavour, was so crunchy that it almost cut open my mouth.
Overall: tasty but expensive
I usually gravitate to the full breakfasts when I have brunch because I love the flavour combination. It worked out well with the Drake Hotel's brunch option too—the flavours blended really well together, and I left satisfied.
Unlike Tatiana, I have no complaints: for me, the price matches the taste. Although the flavours are pretty basic, they make an improvement over the standard full breakfasts I've eaten elsewhere by including quality ingredients. The toast was thick and well-buttered, and the potatoes were crispy on the outside and soft on the inside.
Overall: as good as I expected
