Savour the South at the County General's Brunch

The County General is not, as it appears from first glimpse of the name, a general store out in the Wild West, but rather a small restaurant & bar on Queen Street West. (Still west, but not quite so wild.)

The outside, featuring a sign for their craft beers

We weren't sure what to expect of the County General's brunch at first- most of their dinner and lunch dishes are meat-based, so would the same be true of their brunch?- but it ended up surpassing our (okay, Tatiana's) expectations.

Tatiana's pick: South of the Equator

This was definitely one of the most original brunch dishes I've had in a while. The combination of the slightly sweet fried plantains with the soft cornbread and the guacamole.... mmm. I'm a bit picky about my eggs, and I would have liked these to be a little more cooked... but as far as meals go, I would definitely eat this again!

There was a lot of different textures and a lot of different tastes, but overall the way it blended together was delicious. It was also quite filling, but I wasn't stuffed (even though I ate the entire thing).

Overall: yum!

Jian's pick: Chicken Tender Sandwich

The top-down photo doesn't do this tasty sandwich justice. The crispy fried chicken and avocado filling made a savoury combo, and would have made just as good a lunch.

The fries could have been improved, though- they weren't as crispy as I was expecting (although the ketchup on the side tasted homemade and was delicious). Plus, I'm partial to home fries for breakfast.

Overall review: would eat again!

The main drawback of the County General's brunch was the small size of the restaurant. Larger groups beware- we arrived right at 11 when it opens, and it was already almost full so we sat at the bar. (To be fair, not everyone has as much of a horror of waiting for food as we do...)
